Expanded Parks & Recreation Programs | |
§ Magnolia Park, the City’s newest park, is located between Walker Road and Cornell Road in the Tanasbourne area. Opened in July 2008, this neighborhood park features amenities for the enjoyment of all ages. Magnolia Park is Hillsboro’s first park with a zero-depth water play feature with spray jets. In addition, the park offers a picnic shelter, picnic areas, barbeques, tennis court, basketball half court, playground, open grassy areas, paved paths, two checkerboard tables, and a beautiful and environmentally friendly rain garden which captures and retains water from the park to help improve water quality downstream. § The City also opened the first Hillsboro Off-Leash Dog Park on property located at 229th Ave across from the Gordon Faber Athletic Complex. The “room to run” concept for dogs was actually an idea proposed during the year-five vision update, and wasn’t slated to happen until several years from now. But, this 4.5 acre property became available and with free design help from the Hillsboro Dog Alliance, the Hondo Off-Leash Park is now up and running and is already heavily used. § After a 18 month remodel, the Shute Park Aquatic and Recreation Center reopened in 2007. The expanded facility includes a large fitness room with weight and cardio equipment, exercise and spinning rooms, two multi-purpose classrooms, a deeper warm water pool and a 117-foot slide. § Partnerships make the difference! A host of organizations including Hillsboro Parks & Recreation, SOLV, Intel employees, Hillsboro Boys and Girls Club, as well as Miller Education students partnered to establish Hillsboro’s first Community Garden on the grounds of Calvary Lutheran Church. Thirty two plots of various sizes including raised beds are made available to gardeners through Hillsboro Parks & Recreation. |
