As part of a strategy to revitalize downtown Hillsboro, many arts and culture venues and activities are now located downtown.

Recent additions to downtown Hillsboro:

§   In January of 2008, the Hillsboro Visual Art Association in cooperation with the City of Hillsboro opened the doors to Sequoia Gallery and Studios.  The City worked with numerous local artists to select a location, design and renovate, and organize an association to operate a facility housing affordable studio space, a gallery and classroom.

§     The former Town Theater opened in July of 2008 as the Venetian Theatre & Bistro.  The renovation of the Town Theater was a high priority among residents during the development of the Hillsboro 2020 Vision and Action Plan.  In addition to food and entertainment, the space will be available for corporate meetings and banquets.

Hillsboro area Arts and Culture got a boost recently with formation of the Hillsboro Arts and Culture Council.  The Hillsboro Arts and Culture Council (HACC) has already completed an arts and culture resource inventory, expanded arts venues and begun promoting local artists.

HACC Objectives:

To encourage and celebrate a diverse range of arts and cultural expressions in keeping with Hillsboro's unique identity and sense of place.

To build capacity and collaborations among artists and arts and cultural organizations and with other community interests.

To expand awareness and opportunities for cultural participation.

To promote life-long cultural learning throught the arts and culture.

To further integrate the arts and culture into Hillsboro's civic priorities.
